You Stink CoolPix.

So I got this cool little camera for Christmas this past year. I did minimal (yes I know I have myself to blame) research, but the research I did do sang praises of this tiny little camera. WRONG. First, it has extremely slow shutterspeed. And when you change it to a faster one the pictures were extremely blury. It also had severe red-eye issues. But anyway, I decided I hadn't had it long enough to get a new one. Well, surprise surprise, I go to turn it on while on our first beach trip and it makes a really wierd noise (apparently cameras can make noises), the zoom went in and out all by itself, then shut off and flashed 'Lens Error'. WHAT? I rarely even use you and now, on my beach trip you're going to dye a noisy, strange death? Whatever...
So I depend on my brother in law to snap a few pictures of my girls to remember our trip by. I should have just thrown it in the ocean because when I got home I discovered that these cute little cameras can only be repaired in the Nikon store in NY. Nice. Not only do I have to pay for all the shipping, they kindly let me know that nothing is covered under warranty and it will cost $100 to be fixed.
No Thanks Nikon.
But a big thank you to Kodak who makes disposable one use cameras that can be digital. It was not meant to be for me to get good pictures of the girls on the beach this year.
I am now camera shopping and am VERY OPEN to suggestions since I obviously am not good at picking them out!

I love my canon powershot as well!but... i always say it wouldn't be the best camera to have with kids b/c the there is quite a delay after you push the button to take a pic. besides that it does take great pics!

Hey Ginger! I also have a Canon PowerShot. Mine is the SD450...I've had it for 3 or so years. My mom has a newer model and there's not nearly as much delay in taking photos...it also zooms much closer. I would recommend at least 7 megapixels.

hey! i have the canon powershot SD1000 (digital elph) and LOVE IT. it is GREAT to keep in my purse or the diaper bag. it does have a slower shutter speed. but if you want a small camera, you will have to get used to the slow shutter speed. to get a fast one, you have to get a SLR (like a Rebel) =
i actually have a rebel too! and i LOVE IT! last year, i splurged and got one of each. i decided that i wanted a 'good' camera (the rebel) and a small 'diaper bag' camera. BEST DECISION EVER. i use both all the time. i did alot of research and bought on www.beachcamera.com and was very pleased!
the only thing i would change is this: my rebel is 8 megapixels and i wish that i would have gotten the one with 10 megapixels. it was not THAT much more in price.
(my elph has 7.1 megapixels)

both take great pictures and the rebel has a fast shutter speed. hope this helps!

to share in your frustrations, I have a Coolpix camera too....the EXACT same one you have.... BIG mistake. We took John's work camera to the beach and are on the hunt for a new camera ourselves. I, like you, thought i had found the perfect camera only to discover that it needs new batteries after every picture and takes at least 5 minutes to recover from taking the previous picture. so much work for such a little camera, i guess i feel sorry for it...ha!
